ADHD is typically diagnosed in children who display actions in these three groups. They are 1)Inattentive, 2)Hyperactive, or 3)Combined type. Their actions are unique from their peer group as they are an imparement in their social functioning. This disorder occurs when a person is having trouble in two or more of these settings: home, school or work.
It is thought that the primary cause of ADHD is biological. The frontal cortex of the brain (i.e. the command center: planning, reasoning, problem solving, and attenion) does not produce dopamine which is needed to communicate with other parts of the brain that put these commands into action. For more information on ADHD and it's treatment, please visit these websites located on the right.
